Realtime Camera Design Tutorial

Overview

This tutorial will walk you through the fundamentals of realtime camera design in Realtime Landscaping Pro.

Loading a sample landscape

The first step in our realtime camera design is to select a pre-built landscape that lacks a realtime camera. For this purpose, open “sample4” by selecting “open sample” within the “file” menu. This landscape has the advantage of a nicely built house as well as land and water features. Adding a realtime camera design to this landscape will help us to visualize the entire landscape in a smooth continuous fashion.

Landscape Design

Placing camera points

The most important step is to place the actual points that the camera will pass through. We will require a total of four points that will all be joined to form a loosely formed circle. We will need on point to be placed outside the north-west corner of the backyard fence, and another point outside the north-east corner of the fence. The other two points will need to be placed a reasonable distance from the two southern corners of the house. To place your first point, select the “realtime camera” button that is located under the “utilities” tab.

Adjusting camera direction

The camera direction is the lateral pivot of the camera and is adjusted one point at a time. To adjust the direction of a point, modify the “direction” bar that is found to the right of the screen after a point is selected. You can select points by clicking on them after selecting the camera in your landscape and clicking “edit points”. When you modify the direction of a camera point, you will see the view from the camera’s perspective to the lower right portion of the screen. Proceed to modify the directions of the points so that they laterally focus on the landscaping features.

Adjusting camera angle

The camera angle is the vertical pivot of the camera and is also adjusted one point at a time. Adjusting the angle of the camera is done in the same fashion as adjusting the direction, but the “angle” bar is modified instead of the “direction” bar. Proceed to modify the angles of each point so that they vertically focus on the landscaping features.

Adjusting camera speed

The next step in our realtime camera design is to adjust the camera speed. The camera speed will regulate how fast the camera will move through and between the realtime camera points. To modify the speed of the camera select the realtime camera, select “edit points”, and select all four of the points by holding the “shift” key. With all four points selected, modify the “camera speed” bar that is found to the right of the screen until it displays 30ft per second (9m per second). Increasing the camera speed in this way will make our realtime camera design more thrilling and interesting.

Viewing the realtime camera

Now that we have completed our realtime camera design, it is time to view the results. To view the landscape through the lens of your realtime camera, click the walkthrough button that is found at the bottom of the screen, select (automatic), and click “ok”.
