Overview
This tutorial will walk you through the basics of adding a slope to your yard.
Loading a sample landscape
To begin our sloping yard design, we first need to select a sample landscape. Open “sample9” by clicking “open sample”, found within the “file” menu. This landscape is nicely constructed, but lacks a sloping yard.
Adding a slope
The next step in creating a sloping yard design is to add a straight slope. The slope selection button can be found under the “terrain” tab. Place the beginning point of the slope in the backyard of the landscape between the deck stairs and the northern side of the fence, and the end point of the slope 73 ft (22.25m) directly north.

Setting slope rise
Now we must modify the height of our slope to make it more pronounced. This can be done by clicking on the slope and changing the rise to 20 ft (6.1m). To edit the rise, drag the sliding bar found on the right of the screen while the slope is selected. Editing the rise of a slope will determine the height of the highest points of the slope. In our case, the rise of the slope is the height once the slope has traveled 73 ft (22.25m).
Curving the slope
Many sloping yards are not completely straight, but rather have sharp or subtle curves. To achieve this more natural visualization, we can curve an edge of our slope. From a top-down view (accessed by clicking the “top-down” button on the bottom of the screen) click “edit points” while your slope is selected. The “edit points” button can be found on the right side of the screen. Once you have the points available to edit, click on the easternmost point and drag it so that it is directly underneath the point of the compass arrow.

Changing the rise of an individual point
To accentuate this modified slope point, as well as to add a further degree of realism, let us raise its height. To raise the height of the slope along a single point, select the point in question by clicking “edit points” while the slope is selected. Now set the rise of the point to 35 ft (10.67m).
