Contour Line Properties

The properties used to modify a Contour Line object are located to the right of the screen when your contour line is selected. These properties can either be adjusted right before adding the contour line to your landscape or after it has been added. Below is a description of each available property in the order that they appear in the software.

Options

Description

Elevation

The Elevation property determines the height of the entire contour line. To raise or lower the contour line, move the Elevation slider or enter a value in the text field.

Create a terrace

The Create a terrace property is used to project a near-vertical wall in front of or behind the contour line. To toggle the terracing feature and associated options, click the Create a terrace checkbox.

Important: The contour line must be closed for proper operation.

Terrace height

The Terrace height property determines how tall the terrace is. To adjust the terrace size, move the Terrace height slider or type a value in the text field. The Terrace height property must be a positive value and is only available when the Create a terrace property is checked.

Reverse terrace direction

The Reverse terrace direction property determines whether the terrace will be created in front of or behind the contour line. To toggle the terrace direction, click the Reverse terrace direction checkbox. The Reverse terrace direction property will not be available unless the Create a terrace property is checked.

Closed

The Closed property determines whether the contour line is open or closed. To change the state of the contour line’s shape, click the Closed checkbox.

Line Style

The Line Style property determines the appearance of the contour line’s outline. To change the line style, click the Line Style button and select the style you wish to use from the dialog that appears.

Edit Points

Click the Edit points button to enable or disable point editing mode, which will allow you to modify the contour line’s shape. See Editing Points for details.

Shape Options

Click the Shape options button to save the shape of the contour line, or to load an existing shape. For more details, see Saving and Loading Shapes.

 

Label Options

Description

Add label to Plan view

The Add label to Plan view property determines whether a custom label or the contour line’s length is added to the contour line in the Plan view. To toggle contour line labeling, click the Add label to Plan view checkbox.

Show units

The Show units property determines whether the English or Metric measurement symbols will appear next to the contour line labels. To toggle the display of contour line measurement units, click the Show units checkbox.

 

This property is only available when the Add label to Plan view property is checked, and only takes effect if the “<>” symbols are left in the Label Name property field.

Label Name

The Label Name property determines the text that is displayed in the contour line when the Add label to Plan view property is checked. To change the text that is displayed, click the small button that appears to the right of the text field.

 

If the Label Name property contains the “<>” symbols, then the length of the contour line will be shown.

Font

The Font property determines style of lettering that the contour line label will use. To change the font, click the drop-down menu and select the font of your choice. Any TrueType font that is installed on your computer can be used.

Style

The Style property determines whether the contour line label text style is italic, bold, bold and italic, or regular. To change the style, click the drop-down menu and select the style you wish to use.

Height

The Height property determines the size of each letter of text on the contour line label. For example, if the Height is set to 4 feet (1.2 m), then a capital letter will be approximately 4 feet (1.2 m) from bottom to top. The height will vary slightly based on the Font. To change the text height, move the Height slider or enter a value in the text field.

Offset

The Offset property determines where the label is placed along the contour line. To change the label placement, move the Offset slider or type a value in the text field.

Color

The Color property determines the color of the contour line label. To change the text color, click the small color swatch that displays the current color.
