Sidewalk Properties

The properties used to modify a Sidewalk object are located to the right of the screen when your sidewalk is selected. These properties can either be adjusted right before adding the sidewalk to your landscape or after it has been added. Below is a description of each available property in the order that they appear in the software.

Sidewalk Material

Description

Custom appearance in each view

The Custom appearance in each view option determines whether the sidewalk will appear differently in the Plan view than in the Perspective view. If this option is unchecked, the sidewalk will appear the same in both views.

Plan

The Plan tab contains properties that affect the appearance of the sidewalk in the Plan view. This tab will not be available unless the Custom appearance in each view option is checked.

Perspective

The Perspective tab contains properties that affect the appearance of the sidewalk in the Perspective view. This tab will not be available unless the Custom appearance in each view option is checked.

Material

The Material property determines what type of surface the sidewalk will use. To change the material, click the small image that displays the current material.

Material options

The appearance of the sidewalk can be modified by clicking the small button that appears to the right of the material image.

Size

The Size property determines the scale of the sidewalk material.

Angle

The Angle property determines the rotation angle of the sidewalk material.  To change the material angle, move the Angle slider or type a value in the text field.

Offset X

The Offset X property determines the sidewalk material’s left and right orientation. To shift the material left or right, move the Offset X slider or enter a value in the text field.

Offset Y

The Offset Y property determines the sidewalk material’s forward and backward orientation. To shift the material forward or backward, move the Offset Y slider or enter a value in the text field.

Shininess

The Shininess property determines how glossy the material will appear. To change the appearance of the material, click the Shininess drop-down menu and select from the following options: Default, Off, Low, Medium, or High. The shininess property only affects the appearance of the material while in the 3D view.

Enable enhanced surface detail

The Enable enhanced surface detail property determines whether or not the sidewalk will have increased detail when viewed up close.

Transparency

The Transparency property determines the opacity of the sidewalk in the Plan view. To change the sidewalk opacity, move the Transparency slider or type a value in the text field. Note that the Transparency property is only available when the Custom appearance in each view option is checked.

Outline Style

The Outline Style property determines the appearance of the outline of the sidewalk in the Plan view. To change the line style, click the Outline Style button and select the style you wish to use from the dialog that appears. Note that an outline style is only available when the Custom appearance in each view option is checked.

Joint Style

The Joint Style property determines the appearance of the sidewalk joint lines in the Plan view. To change the line style of the joints, click the Joint Style button and select the style you wish to use from the dialog that appears. Note that a joint style is only available when the Custom appearance in each view option is checked.

 

Curb Material

Custom appearance in each view

The Custom appearance in each view option determines whether the curb will appear differently in the Plan view than in the Perspective view. If this option is unchecked, the curb will appear the same in both views.

Plan

The Plan tab contains properties that affect the appearance of the curb in the Plan view. This tab will not be available unless the Custom appearance in each view option is checked.

Perspective

The Perspective tab contains properties that affect the appearance of the curb in the Perspective view. This tab will not be available unless the Custom appearance in each view option is checked.

Material

The Material property determines what type of surface the curb will use. To change the material, click the small image that displays the current material.

Line Style

The Line Style property determines the appearance of the outline of the curb in the Plan view. To change the line style, click the Line Style button and select the style you wish to use from the dialog that appears. Note that a line style is only available when the Custom appearance in each view option is checked.

 

Options

Description

Width

The Width property determines the thickness of the sidewalk. To change the sidewalk width, move the Width slider or type a value in the text field.

Height

The Height property determines how tall the sidewalk is. To change the height of the sidewalk, move the Height slider or type a value in the text field.

Slab length

The Slab length property determines the distance between each expansion joint. To change the length of each sidewalk slab, move the Slab length slider or type a value in the text field.

 

The Slab length property will have no effect if the Joint type property is set to “None”.

Joint type

The Joint type property determines whether the sidewalk is composed of slabs, slabs with false joints, or solid cement. To change the sidewalk type, click the Joint type drop-down menu.

Curb type

The Curb type property determines the type of curb that is placed next to the sidewalk. To change the curb style, click the Curb type drop-down menu.

 

Curbing can also be added separately using the Curb tool. See Adding a Curb for details.

Curb width

The Curb width property determines the thickness of the curb. To change the width of the curb, move the Curb width slider or type a value in the text field.

 

The Curb width property will not be accessible if the Curb type property is set to “None”.

Closed

The Closed property determines whether the sidewalk’s shape is open or closed. To change the state of the sidewalk’s shape, click the Closed checkbox.

Switch sides

The Switch sides property determines on which side of the sidewalk’s shape the sidewalk is built. To toggle the side that the sidewalk is constructed on, click the Switch sides checkbox.

Edit Points

Click the Edit points button to enable or disable point editing mode, which will allow you to modify the sidewalk’s shape. See Editing Points for details.

Shape Options

Click the Shape Options button to save the shape of the sidewalk or to load an existing shape. For more details, see Saving and Loading Shapes.

Description

Length

The Length property displays the total distance, in feet or meters, from the start of the sidewalk to the finish.
