Swimming Pool Properties

The properties used to modify a Swimming Pool object are located to the right of the screen when your pool is selected. These properties can either be adjusted right before adding the pool to your landscape or after it has been added. Below is a description of each available property in the order that they appear in the software.

Finish

Description

Custom appearance in each view

The Custom appearance in each view option determines whether the swimming pool will appear differently in the Plan view than in the Perspective view. If this option is unchecked, the pool will appear the same in both views.

Plan

The Plan tab contains properties that affect the appearance of the swimming pool finish in the Plan view. This tab will not be available unless the Custom appearance in each view option is checked.

Perspective

The Perspective tab contains properties that affect the appearance of the swimming pool finish in the Perspective view. This tab will not be available unless the Custom appearance in each view option is checked.

Material

The Material property determines what type of finish the swimming pool will use. To change the material, click the small image that displays the current material.

Material options

The appearance of the swimming pool can be modified by clicking the small button that appears to the right of the material image.

Size

The Size property determines the scale of the finish material.

Angle

The Angle property determines the rotation angle of the finish material.  To change the material angle, move the Angle slider or type a value in the text field.

Offset X

The Offset X property determines the finish material’s left and right orientation. To shift the material left or right, move the Offset X slider or enter a value in the text field.

Offset Y

The Offset Y property determines the finish material’s forward and backward orientation. To shift the material forward or backward, move the Offset Y slider or enter a value in the text field.

Shininess

The Shininess property determines how glossy the material will appear. To change the appearance of the material, click the Shininess drop-down menu and select from the following options: Default, Off, Low, Medium, or High. The shininess property only affects the appearance of the material while in the 3D view.

Enable enhanced surface detail

The Enable enhanced surface detail property determines whether or not the finish will have increased detail when viewed up close.

Transparency

The Transparency property determines the opacity of the swimming pool in the Plan view. To change the pool opacity, move the Transparency slider or type a value in the text field. Note that the Transparency property is only available when the Custom appearance in each view option is checked.

Line style

The Line Style property determines the appearance of the outline of the swimming pool in the Plan view. To change the line style, click the Line Style… button and select the style you wish to use from the dialog that appears. Note that a line style is only available when the Custom appearance in each view option is checked.

 

Options

Description

Height

The Height property determines how tall the swimming pool will be. To adjust the swimming pool height, move the Height slider or type a value into the text field.

If the swimming pool is completely surrounded by a Pool Decking object, then it is recommended to raise both the pool and the decking at once by adjusting the Height value of the pool decking.

Wall width

The Wall width property determines the thickness of the swimming pool walls. The width of the walls also affects the length of the coping. To adjust the swimming pool wall thickness, move the Wall width slider or type a value in the text field.

Water tint

The Water tint property determines the color of the water. To adjust the water tint, click the small color swatch that displays the current color. To disable water tinting, set the color to white. To darken the water without tinting, set the color to the desired shadow of gray.

Water effect

The Water effect property determines how the water will appear during a Realtime Walkthrough. Water can be calm, have small ripples, or even include foam (useful for creating spas and hot tubs).

Water ripples will also occur automatically when water flows into the pool from another source such as a waterfall.

Add steam

Check this option to add steam rising from the water during a Realtime Walkthrough.

Edit points

Click the Edit points button to enable or disable point editing mode, which will allow you to modify the swimming pool’s shape. See Editing Points for details.

Shape options

Click the Shape Options button to save the shape of the swimming pool, or to load an existing shape. For more details, see Saving and Loading Shapes.

 

Wall Material

Description

Material

The Material property determines what type of surface the swimming pool walls will use. To change the material, click the small image that displays the current material.

Material options

The appearance of the swimming pool wall material can be modified by clicking the small button that appears to the right of the material image.

Size

The Size property determines the scale of the wall material.

Angle

The Angle property determines the rotation angle of the wall material.  To change the material angle, move the Angle slider or type a value in the text field.

Offset X

The Offset X property determines the wall material’s left and right orientation. To shift the material left or right, move the Offset X slider or enter a value in the text field.

Offset Y

The Offset Y property determines the wall material’s forward and backward orientation. To shift the material forward or backward, move the Offset Y slider or enter a value in the text field.

Shininess

The Shininess property determines how glossy the material will appear. To change the appearance of the material, click the Shininess drop-down menu and select from the following options: Default, Off, Low, Medium, or High. The shininess property only affects the appearance of the material while in the 3D view.

Enable enhanced surface detail

The Enable enhanced surface detail property determines whether or not the wall will have increased detail when viewed up close.

 

 

Coping

Description

The Custom appearance in each view option determines whether the swimming pool coping will appear differently in the Plan view than in the Perspective view. If this option is unchecked, the pool coping will appear the same in both views.

Transparency

Line Style

The Line Style property determines the appearance of the outline of the swimming pool coping in the Plan view. To change the line style, click the Line Style button and select the style you wish to use from the dialog that appears. Note that a line style is only available when the Custom appearance in each view option is checked.

Coping type

The Coping type property determines which style of coping is placed around the perimeter of the swimming pool. To change the style of coping, click the Coping type drop-down menu and select the style you would like to use.

Height

The Height property determines how tall the coping is. To adjust the coping height, move the Height slider or type a value in the text field.

Overhang

The Overhang property determines how far into the pool the coping extends. To adjust the coping extension, move the Overhang slider or type a value in the text field.

Edit coping

Click the Edit coping button to enable or disable coping editing mode, which will allow you to modify the visibility of coping at each swimming pool edge. When coping editing mode is enabled, click the edges of your swimming pool that you wish to toggle. Note that the Edit coping property will be disabled if the Style property is set to None or Seamless.

 

Infinity Edge & Glass Options

Description

Use same material as wall

The Use same material as wall property determines whether the wall below the infinity edge and the material of the edge itself will use the same material as the pool’s walls. To toggle the infinity edge wall material, click the Use same material as wall checkbox.

Use material for entire surface

The Use material for entire surface property determines whether the separate material for the infinity edge applies only to the edge itself, or to the wall below the infinity edge as well. To toggle the material of the infinity edge, click the Use material for entire surface checkbox.

Material

The Material property determines the type of surface that is applied to the infinity edge. To change the material, click the small image that displays the current material.

The appearance of the infinity edge material can be modified by clicking the small button that appears to the right of the material image.

Size

The Size property determines the scale of the edge material.

Angle

The Angle property determines the rotation angle of the edge material.  To change the material angle, move the Angle slider or type a value in the text field.

Offset X

The Offset X property determines the edge material’s left and right orientation. To shift the material left or right, move the Offset X slider or enter a value in the text field.

Offset Y

The Offset Y property determines the edge material’s forward and backward orientation. To shift the material forward or backward, move the Offset Y slider or enter a value in the text field.

Shininess

The Shininess property determines how glossy the material will appear. To change the appearance of the material, click the Shininess drop-down menu and select from the following options: Default, Off, Low, Medium, or High. The shininess property only affects the appearance of the material while in the 3D view.

Enable enhanced surface detail

The Enable enhanced surface detail property determines whether or not the edge will have increased detail when viewed up close.

Flowing water

The Flowing water property determines the rate of water that cascades over all infinity edges on the currently selected swimming pool. To change the rate of flow, click the Flowing water drop-down menu.

Glass height

For a standard (non-infinity) glass wall, this determines the height of the glass relative to the bottom of the coping. For an infinity glass wall, this determines the height of the glass relative to the water level.

Glass thickness

The Glass thickness property determines the thickness of the glass wall. This value is automatically restricted to the wall thickness.

Edit Edges

The Edit Edges property is used to enable infinity edge editing mode. While this mode is active, click an edge of the swimming pool to toggle the infinity edge style. Click the same edge multiple times to toggle through the available infinity edge styles. To enable or disable edge editing mode, click the Edit Edges button.

 

Tile

Description

Add tile

The Add Tile property determines whether or not tile is added to the swimming pool walls. To toggle the tile, click the Add Tile checkbox.

Material

The Material property determines what type of swimming pool tile is used. To change the material, click the small image that displays the current tile.

Material options

The appearance of the swimming pool tile can be modified by clicking the small button that appears to the right of the material image.

Angle

The Angle property determines the rotation angle of the tile material.  To change the material angle, move the Angle slider or type a value in the text field.

Offset X

The Offset X property determines the tile material’s left and right orientation. To shift the material left or right, move the Offset X slider or enter a value in the text field.

Offset Y

The Offset Y property determines the tile material’s forward and backward orientation. To shift the material forward or backward, move the Offset Y slider or enter a value in the text field.

Shininess

The Shininess property determines how glossy the material will appear. To change the appearance of the material, click the Shininess drop-down menu and select from the following options: Default, Off, Low, Medium, or High. The shininess property only affects the appearance of the material while in the 3D view.

Tile size

The Tile size property determines the size of each tile. Note that the Tile size slider has no effect on solid color materials. To change the size of the swimming pool tile, move the Tile size slider or type a value in the text field.

 

Depth

Description

Edit depths

Click the Edit depths button to enable or disable depth editing mode, which will allow you to modify the pool’s depth along a line. See Editing Points for details.

Depth

The Depth property determines how deep the entire swimming pool is. Alternately, if depth editing mode is enabled and one or more depth points are selected, then the Depth slider can be moved to raise or lower individual points.

 

Information

Description

Water area

The Water area property displays the approximate water surface area in square feet or meters. Overlapping pool decking and swimming pools are excluded. When this value is calculated, a blue shape appears to help you visualize how the area is determined.

Water perimeter

The Water perimeter property displays the approximate distance around the swimming pool water in feet or meters. Overlapping pool decking and swimming pools are excluded. When this value is calculated, a yellow line appears to help you visualize how the perimeter is determined.

Water volume

The Water volume property displays the approximate amount of water in cubic feet and gallons, or in cubic meters and liters.

Finish

The Finish property displays the approximate area of the swimming pool interior in square feet or meters.

Coping

The Coping property displays the approximate area of the swimming pool coping in square feet or meters.

Tile

The Tile property displays the approximate area of the swimming pool tile in square feet or meters.

Calculate

Click the Calculate button to calculate the above values.
