House Properties

The properties used to adjust a house are found to the right of the screen when the house is selected. It is best to first create the house before attempting to change aesthetic options like the type of house walls or the color of the trim. Below is a description of each available house property in the order that they appear in the software:

Roof Material

Description

Roof material

The Roof material property determines the style of the roof surface. To change the roof material, click the small image that displays the current material.

Roof material options

The Roof material options can be accessed by clicking the small button that appears to the right of the Roof material image. Clicking this small button provides the same options as clicking the right mouse button on the Roof material image itself.

Size

The Size property determines the scale of the roof material. For example, if the roof has a shingle material, then the Size slider will adjust the size of each shingle.

Angle

The Angle property determines the rotation angle of the roof material.  To change the material angle, move the Angle slider or type a value in the text field.

Offset X

The Offset X property determines the roof material’s left and right orientation. To shift the material left or right, move the Offset X slider or enter a value in the text field.

Offset Y

The Offset Y property determines the roof material’s forward and backward orientation. To shift the material forward or backward, move the Offset Y slider or enter a value in the text field.

Shininess

The Shininess property determines how glossy the material will appear. To change the appearance of the material, click the Shininess drop-down menu and select from the following options: Default, Off, Low, Medium, or High. The shininess property only affects the appearance of the material while in the 3D view.

Enable enhanced surface detail

The Enable enhanced surface detail property determines whether or not the wall material will have increased detail when viewed up close.

 

Wall Material

Wall material

The Wall Material property determines what type of surface the house walls will use. To change the material, click the small image that displays the current material.

Wall material options

The appearance of the walls can be modified by clicking the small button that appears to the right of the material image.

Size

The Size property determines the scale of the wall material. For example, if the wall has a brick material, then the Size slider will adjust the size of each brick.

Angle

The Angle property determines the rotation angle of the wall material.  To change the material angle, move the Angle slider or type a value in the text field.

Offset X

The Offset X property determines the wall material’s left and right orientation. To shift the material left or right, move the Offset X slider or enter a value in the text field.

Offset Y

The Offset Y property determines the wall material’s forward and backward orientation. To shift the material forward or backward, move the Offset Y slider or enter a value in the text field.

Shininess

The Shininess property determines how glossy the material will appear. To change the appearance of the material, click the Shininess drop-down menu and select from the following options: Default, Off, Low, Medium, or High. The shininess property only affects the appearance of the material while in the 3D view.

The Enable enhanced surface detail property determines whether or not the wall material will have increased detail when viewed up close.

 

Options

Description

Wall height

The Wall height property determines how tall the house walls are. If the height of the walls is set to 0, then only the roof will remain, which is useful for creating carports and overhangs. To change the height of the house walls, move the Wall height slider or enter a value in the text field.

Elevation

The Elevation property determines the distance of the house from the ground. To change the elevation, move the Elevation slider or type a value in the text field.

Roof pitch

The Roof pitch property determines the steepness of the roof’s incline. For example, a roof pitch of 0 will cause the roof to be flat, while a high roof pitch will cause the roof to be peaked. To change the roof pitch, move the Roof pitch slider or enter a value in the text field.

Roof overhang

The Roof overhang property determines the distance that the roof will project beyond the house walls. To change the roof overhang, move the Roof overhang slider or enter a value in the text field.

Add corner trim

The Add corner trim property determines whether solid trim is added to the corners of the house. To toggle the appearance of trim, click the Add corner trim checkbox.

Trim color

The Trim color property determines the color of the corner trim if corner trim is enabled. To change the color of the corner trim, click the small swatch that displays the current trim color. In addition to affecting the corner trim of the house, the Trim color also affects the trim of any doors and windows that have been added.

Edit points

Click the Edit points button to enable or disable point editing mode, which will allow you to modify the house’s shape. See Editing Points for details.

Shape options

Click the Shape Options button to save the shape of the house, or to load an existing shape. For more details, see Saving and Loading Shapes.

Edit roof type

To toggle portions of the roofline between hip and gable styles, first click the Edit roof type button. Next, click on the wall underneath the edge of the roof you wish to toggle. When finished, click the Edit roof type button again to exit roof editing mode.

Description

Area

The Area property displays the total size of the house in square feet or meters.

Perimeter

The Perimeter property displays the total distance around the house in feet or meters.
