Model Creation Wizard

The Model Creation Wizard is used to create new models using existing objects. For example, a plant could be placed on a trellis, and then the Model Creation Wizard could be used to permanently add the plant/trellis combination to Realtime Landscaping Plus. Once an object is created using the Model Creation Wizard, it can be added to any of your landscape designs.

Creating a Custom Plant

The following guide explains how to create a fall version of the Red Maple 3D tree.

To create a new 3D plant:

1.   Use the Plant object to add a Red Maple to your landscape design. Ensure that you are adding a 3D model and not a 2D Picture.

2.   Click the tree to select it.

3.   Click the small button that appears next to the picture of the plant to the right of the screen and then click the Edit Materials button.

4.   Click Material 3, which in this case is the material for the plant foliage.

5.   Click the small button to the right of the foliage picture and click Color and Brightness.

6.   Set the Tint to -50 (to set the foliage color to red) and the Brightness to 20 (to brighten it up a bit). Then click the OK button.

7.   Click the OK button again. Your plant should appear similar to the picture below.

8.   With the tree still selected, click Tools, Model Creation Wizard, and follow the prompts. When you are asked to select the type of object you wish to create, select Plant, and when asked for the File Name, enter "Red Maple - Fall" for the common name for the new plant.

9.   Before the wizard completes, you will be prompted to enter additional plant information, including botanical name, mature age, mature height, and planting zones. This information is optional, but it is recommended to accurately enter the Mature age and Mature height as they affect how the plant is sized when it is added to your landscape design.

Tips:

If you wish to import custom pictures or photographs, use the Picture Import Wizard.

For more information on editing the appearance of an object, see Editing Materials.

If you wish to create a custom plant from an existing one, the Plant Creation Wizard can also be used. Note that the Plant Creation Wizard handles both 2D and 3D plants, while the Model Creation Wizard only supports 3D plants.
