Swimming Pool Properties

The properties used to modify a Swimming Pool object are located to the right of the screen when your pool is selected. These properties can either be adjusted right before adding the pool to your landscape or after it has been added. Below is a description of each available property in the order that they appear in the software.

Finish

Description

Material

The Material property determines what type of finish the swimming pool will use. To change the material, click the small image that displays the current material.

Material options

The appearance of the swimming pool can be modified by clicking the small button that appears to the right of the material image.

Size

The Size property determines the scale of the finish material.

Angle

The Angle property determines the rotation angle of the finish material.  To change the material angle, move the Angle slider or type a value in the text field.

Offset X

The Offset X property determines the finish material’s left and right orientation. To shift the material left or right, move the Offset X slider or enter a value in the text field.

Offset Y

The Offset Y property determines the finish material’s forward and backward orientation. To shift the material forward or backward, move the Offset Y slider or enter a value in the text field.

Shininess

The Shininess property determines how glossy the material will appear. To change the appearance of the material, click the Shininess drop-down menu and select from the following options: Default, Off, Low, Medium, or High. The shininess property only affects the appearance of the material while in the 3D view.

Enable enhanced surface detail

The Enable enhanced surface detail property determines whether or not the finish material will have increased detail when viewed up close.

 

Options

Description

Height

The Height property determines how tall the swimming pool will be. To adjust the swimming pool height, move the Height slider or type a value into the text field.

If the swimming pool is completely surrounded by a Pool Decking object, then it is recommended to raise both the pool and the decking at once by adjusting the Height value of the pool decking.

Wall width

The Wall width property determines the thickness of the swimming pool walls. The width of the walls also affects the length of the coping. To adjust the swimming pool wall thickness, move the Wall width slider or type a value in the text field.

Water tint

The Water tint property determines the color of the water. To adjust the water tint, click the small color swatch that displays the current color. To disable water tinting, set the color to white. To darken the water without tinting, set the color to the desired shade of gray.

Water effect

The Water effect property determines how the water will appear during a Realtime Walkthrough. Water can be calm, have small ripples, or even include foam and steam (useful for creating spas and hot tubs).

For water effects to be enabled, the Improved water quality property must be checked, and you must have a 3D video card which is capable of these effects.

Water ripples will also occur automatically when water flows into the pool from another source such as a waterfall.

Brighten water at night

The Brighten water at night property determines if the water should be artificially lightened during Realtime Walkthroughs when the Time of day is set to Sunrise, Sunset, or Evening. To toggle swimming pool lightening, click the Brighten water at night checkbox.

The Improved water quality property must be checked before the water can be brightened at night.

Improved water quality

The Improved water quality property determines if standard or improved water should be used during Realtime Walkthroughs. Improved water generates realistic reflections and refractions, but can cause older computers to run slower. To toggle the water quality, click the Improved water quality checkbox.

Edit points

Click the Edit points button to enable or disable point editing mode, which will allow you to modify the swimming pool’s shape. See Editing Points for details.

Shape options

Click the Shape Options button to save the shape of the swimming pool, or to load an existing shape. For more details, see Saving and Loading Shapes.

 

Wall Material

Description

Material

The Material property determines what type of surface the swimming pool walls will use. To change the material, click the small image that displays the current material.

The appearance of the swimming pool wall material can be modified by clicking the small button that appears to the right of the material image.

Size

The Size property determines the scale of the wall material.

Angle

The Angle property determines the rotation angle of the wall material.  To change the material angle, move the Angle slider or type a value in the text field.

Offset X

The Offset X property determines the wall material’s left and right orientation. To shift the material left or right, move the Offset X slider or enter a value in the text field.

Offset Y

The Offset Y property determines the wall material’s forward and backward orientation. To shift the material forward or backward, move the Offset Y slider or enter a value in the text field.

The Shininess property determines how glossy the material will appear. To change the appearance of the material, click the Shininess drop-down menu and select from the following options: Default, Off, Low, Medium, or High. The shininess property only affects the appearance of the material while in the 3D view.

Coping

Description

Material

The Material property determines what type of surface the swimming pool coping will use. To change the material, click the small image that displays the current material.

The appearance of the swimming pool coping can be modified by clicking the small button that appears to the right of the material image.

Size

The Size property determines the scale of the coping material.

Angle

The Angle property determines the rotation angle of the coping material.  To change the material angle, move the Angle slider or type a value in the text field.

Offset X

The Offset X property determines the coping material’s left and right orientation. To shift the material left or right, move the Offset X slider or enter a value in the text field.

Offset Y

The Offset Y property determines the coping material’s forward and backward orientation. To shift the material forward or backward, move the Offset Y slider or enter a value in the text field.

The Shininess property determines how glossy the material will appear. To change the appearance of the material, click the Shininess drop-down menu and select from the following options: Default, Off, Low, Medium, or High. The shininess property only affects the appearance of the material while in the 3D view.

The Enable enhanced surface detail property determines whether or not the coping material will have increased detail when viewed up close.

Coping type

The Coping type property determines which style of coping is placed around the perimeter of the swimming pool. To change the style of coping, click the Coping type drop-down menu and select the style you would like to use.

Height

The Height property determines how tall the coping is. To adjust the coping height, move the Height slider or type a value in the text field.

Overhang

The Overhang property determines how far into the pool the coping extends. To adjust the coping extension, move the Overhang slider or type a value in the text field.

Edit coping

Click the Edit coping button to enable or disable coping editing mode, which will allow you to modify the visibility of coping at each swimming pool edge. When coping editing mode is enabled, click the edges of your swimming pool that you wish to toggle. Note that the Edit coping property will be disabled if the Style property is set to None or Seamless.

 

Tile

Description

Add tile

The Add Tile property determines whether or not tile is added to the swimming pool walls. To toggle the tile, click the Add Tile checkbox.

Material

The Material property determines what type of swimming pool tile is used. To change the material, click the small image that displays the current tile.

The appearance of the swimming pool tile can be modified by clicking the small button that appears to the right of the material image.

Angle

The Angle property determines the rotation angle of the tile material.  To change the material angle, move the Angle slider or type a value in the text field.

Offset X

The Offset X property determines the tile material’s left and right orientation. To shift the material left or right, move the Offset X slider or enter a value in the text field.

Offset Y

The Offset Y property determines the tile material’s forward and backward orientation. To shift the material forward or backward, move the Offset Y slider or enter a value in the text field.

The Shininess property determines how glossy the material will appear. To change the appearance of the material, click the Shininess drop-down menu and select from the following options: Default, Off, Low, Medium, or High. The shininess property only affects the appearance of the material while in the 3D view.

The Enable enhanced surface detail property determines whether or not the tile material will have increased detail when viewed up close.

Tile size

The Tile size property determines the size of each tile. Note that the Tile size slider has no effect on solid color materials. To change the size of the swimming pool tile, move the Tile size slider or type a value in the text field.

 

Depth

Description

Edit depths

Click the Edit depths button to enable or disable depth editing mode, which will allow you to modify the pool’s depth along a line. See Editing Points for details.

Depth

The Depth property determines how deep the entire swimming pool is. Alternately, if depth editing mode is enabled and one or more depth points are selected, then the Depth slider can be moved to raise or lower individual points.

 

Information

Description

Water area

The Water area property displays the approximate water surface area in square feet or meters. Overlapping pool decking and swimming pools are excluded. When this value is calculated, a blue shape appears to help you visualize how the area is determined.

Water perimeter

The Water perimeter property displays the approximate distance around the swimming pool water in feet or meters. Overlapping pool decking and swimming pools are excluded. When this value is calculated, a yellow line appears to help you visualize how the perimeter is determined.

Water volume

The Water volume property displays the approximate amount of water in cubic feet and gallons, or in cubic meters and liters.

Finish

The Finish property displays the approximate area of the swimming pool interior in square feet or meters.

Coping

The Coping property displays the approximate area of the swimming pool coping in square feet or meters.

Tile

The Tile property displays the approximate area of the swimming pool tile in square feet or meters.

Calculate

Click the Calculate button to calculate the above values.
